And unless Krikzz decides to make an Everdrive for the PS2, then this might be the only way you can load PS2 games via a hard drive (Open PS2 Loader doesn't support SD cards, well it probably does actually, if you use an SD Card via a USB connector to the PS2 (as then, to the PS2, that is surely just a USB stick?), but it will be limited to v1.1 USB speeds, which is much slower than a modern SD Card or hard drive can run at).Įdit: I haven't included links, in case it's against this boards rules (though since the software is freeware, then it's probably OK), but you can find Free MCBoot and Open PS2 Loader via google, and there are extensive tutorials for each, and a very helpful forum if you need more information.

#Open ps2 loader free mcboot install#
It is a bit more of an effort getting Free MCBoot + Open PS2 Loader + Network adapter + hard drive + PS2 set up than it would be if there was a PS2 Everdrive (at least going by how easy to setup the current Everdrives are), but it's well worth the small effort, as once it's done it's done for good, and the (simple and fully menu driven) software is very easy to use, and being able to install your games on the PS2 and load them up so quickly is fantastic. All of the software is freeware, and most games are compatible (Open PS2 Loader is continually being improved, thereby increasing compatability all the time, unlike with HD Loader/HD Advance, the (commercial) prequels to (the freeware) Open PS2 Loader, which Open PS2 Loader has long surpassed). I really recommend using a hard drive with a PS2, as really makes everything so much more convenient. I'm sure all the games and stuff are still on my hard drive but I can't open the games list.

But I accidentally deleted open ps2 loader from the memory card. But you can't play PS1 games like this, and as far as I know you can't use the hard drive with a slim PS2 (only a fat PS2), you instead need to use a memory stick (or maybe a USE hard drive, I don't know?) which is slow since the PS2 only uses v1.1 USB. I'm not sure what to do now it's the only thing I deleted I have modded PS2 with mcboot elf etc. The PS2 loading PS2 games from hard drive (using Open PS2 Loader) and even booting from the memory card (using Free MCBoot) is brilliant, as it not only is menu driven and loads the games very fast and without any disc errors, but it also saves wear and tear on the PS2's DVD drive, as you never need to use it except to install a game (if you use Free MCBoot then you don't even need a DVD in the drive to boot the PS2!).
